• Drive-in theater screen with text saying Hello August Goodbye July, cars parked facing the screen in evening
Cars gather at an outdoor drive-in theater displaying ‘Hello August Goodbye July’

A few things I’ve watched from last week and into this week

    Obsession (2026)

Available to stream on Peacock and I had fun watching this film. I shouldn’t say we all have, but some of have gone through the urgent and desperate feelings either in adolescence or as an adult over someone we “loved”.

Bear has romantic feelings for Nikki and she doesn’t reciprocate his feelings. Bear ends up at a crystal or new age shop trying to find a present for Nikki, because she’s planning on moving to another state to get a fresh start. Bear finds this trinket toy called One Wish Willow. The box says One Wish Willow make one wish and it’ll come true. There is a warning on the box that says be careful what you wish for.

He ends up making the wish in his car after he drops off Nikki at her house. The chaos is a slow medium build up but it’s a wild ride.

I genuinely enjoyed the movie because the obsessive feelings that Nikki goes through, after Bear makes that wish, just reminds me of when I was a teenager and how I would feel towards boys I liked or even so called dated. For me yeah I laughed and enjoyed the chaos.

I felt so bad for Nikki though and though throughout the movie, please let this end for her.

If you haven’t seen it yet go watch it, create a fake account and do a free trial just so you can watch the movie. I’ve done that so many times just to watch a movie on streaming for free. Or if you know where to watch go do that.

    Toxic Love Story (On Netflix)

I love documentaries and true crime. Yes it is a time where you can relax and just get out of your head for awhile. At the same time think, “Oh my god what the hell?!?!”

Here is a couple, Marshal and Angela, and they meet and fall in love and do the moving in together thing. Later in the relationship they start to get these vicious emails and the police get involved, someone gets arrested, and at some point the FBI get involved.

It’s a roller coaster of insane betrayal and honestly I feel safer being single and not dating. Nope. I’m good.

Here is everything you need to know about what’s coming out in August

I’m looking forward to The Drama on HBO, which releases on July 31st. What a way to end the month of July. Enjoy watching A24 movies for now because they signed a contract with Google and Deepfake for AI.

The Drama is an romantic black comedy movie and stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson. Here is the trailer.

  • It’s mid July and I haven’t posted or done much of anything while I was finishing up College Algebra, which is a nightmare class. I don’t recommend it but sadly it is required to graduate as an extra math or science elective.

I am getting back to where I have some time again so I hope to at least write once or twice a month here.

    Things to geek out about!

    Book News

H.D. Carlton, Mother herself, went live on TikTok this week and Haunting Adeline and Hunting Adeline will be movies!

Haunting Adeline is first of course and hopefully with a premiere date of sometime in 2027. Before you say anything else, yes the gun part and fun house mirrors will be in the movie. I Just hope that it is not rushed because rushed movies never turn out well.

Check out H.D. Carlton’s website and TikTok.

We only have a few months left until the release of ACOTAR Book 6.!

Book 7 will come out sometime in 2027.

Hellraiser and Godzilla have new comics out this month.

    Streaming releases

On Shudder or AMC Plus Faces of Death, starring Darce Montgomery and Barbie Ferreira

Sadly Joe Bob Briggs and The Last Drive In have been cancelled from Shudder. They will announce their new home either this Christmas or New Years Eve. If you miss watching The Last Drive In go subscribe to AMC Plus. They have everything Joe Bob and The Last Drive, as Shudder is removing Joe Bob completely from their platform, except for the few specials he will be doing this year.

Go subscribe to Darcy or Joe Bob on Twitter, Blue sky, Patreon (The Lost Drive In), and Facebook.

HBO has released Undertone which I haven’t seen yet and at some point I will. I just didn’t really read good reviews about it. You can also watch Lee Cronin’s, The Mummy.

July 31st HBO will release the A24 film, The Drama.

Sadly A24 has announced moving forward they will be partnering with two AI companies in making movies in the future. Many will be boycotting new A24 films that are done with AI.

Exclusively on Peacock October 15th, 2026 A24’s Crystal Lake. A prequel that will consist of 8 episodes focusing on Jason drowning and then his Mom killing everyone.

Netflix released the new Little House on the Prairie , Worst Neighbor Ever, and Enola Holmes season 3.

July 17th for Heartstopper fans, Heartstopper: Forever releases. It will be finale of the series.

    That’s it for this week.

  • It’s the end of 2025 and the end of Stranger Things. It was also the end of Squid Games. Which that one felt very rushed. I was kinda disappointed with the ending of Squid Games.

Now what? What’s the next great show or movie to come?

We will have to wait for 2026 to arrive and keep our eyes peeled.

Wishing you all a happy and shiny new year.

  • Happy Halloween

We made it to Halloween! Wishing you a happy Halloween 🎃 remember to follow the rules.

  • Parody horror films. Need I say more?

Parodies of horror movies exist because the original films have been popular and the topic overused.

Return of the living dead franchise and the Scary Movie franchise are the first parodies that come to mind.

The best phrase came from the first Scary Movie film to where we all called our friends saying “Wassssup”.

Return of the living dead brought the phrase “Brains I need more brains”.

Whether you love them or hate them parodies keep the spirit of the original movies we love to watch.

  • Masks. Why do so many killers wear masks?

One we know that masks can hide the true identity of the person. Two they may have physical traits that they want to hide. Three masks can make the scene more thrilling and exciting. (Not in the way we want them to be lol)

There’s also movies that don’t reveal the killer’s image or likeness at all. The film “Black Christmas” they never showed who the killer was only where the phone calls were coming from. Or you don’t get to see who the killer is until 45 minutes later into the film.

What are your thoughts on masked killers in films?

  • Long live Tim Burton

My first Tim Burton film (I didn’t know who he was until I was 21) was “Edward Scissorhands.” I fell in love with the characters and thought it was so cool that someone had scissors for hands. My favorite part of the movie is the show and tell at school.

As an adult now in my mid life I truly love the film “Sweeney Todd.” The songs were so addictive to listen to. Oddly enough the song “Joanna” sounds similar to the song “Maria” from West Side Story. Go give both a listen and lemme know in the comments.

What Tim Burton films are your favorite?

  • Follow the rules

Honestly besides the movie Scream, Trick r Treat is the second movie that has a set of rules to follow and both of these films show the consequences when you don’t follow the simplest of rules. Especially on Halloween night.

Jamie was definitely a character in scream and one of my favorites too. The above rules can be true for almost every slasher film.

  • They supposedly make things bigger in Texas

It’s the 40th anniversary of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and theaters across the U.S. showed it earlier this month in theaters.

Tobe Hopper created this film and had a budget of 140,000 dollars to make it. Inspired from events of the serial killer, Ed Gein. Due to the violence in the film it took awhile for Hopper to find a distributor.

Hopper wanted a PG rating but it was rated R by the MPAA. It ended up of course being banned in several countries. I just think that’s hilarious that he wanted it PG. Honestly I can’t say because to protect children which yes that’s a concern but moms end up bringing their kids and babies to the movies.

It’s also cool that the actors were all unknown and it definitely boosted Marilyn’s career as a scream queen.

If you haven’t watched this definitely give it a watch. It’s a horror classic.
